COMMUNITY
SUPPORT.
PURPOSE
To address the above youth related problems, RESCOU intends to
provide a holistic care with the view of educating and alleviating
poverty and humanitarian hardship among
the youth of Ulumbi.
SPECIFIC PROJECT OBJECTIVES
- Empower youth as behaviour change and development agents.
- Train peer youth educators offering counselling, life skills,
psychosocial support and education to peers.
- Develop a Community Youth Centre with structures to promote
youth therapeutic, personal development, recreational and income
generation initiatives.
- Network with existing organization for youth to access services
outside the scope of the project.
Twenty three youth started meeting once a week from June 2007
and recently moved to a one roomed premise where they have a table
and a few chairs. They have received a pool table from a community
member and RESCOU supplied them with some reading materials which
included old newspapers and magazines. They are in the
process of putting up some book shelves in anticipation of books
from well wishers.
The challenges are space, reading materials and sponsorship
for training and also for income generating activities.
The youth are excited about the project because they never imagined
that such a service could come to them as it has been a privilege
of the urban youth. The numbers are increasing day by day as they
can see that their potential may be realized.
Any assistance with this project will be greatly change the lives
of the youth who are our future leaders.
